Me paint pretty one day.

I decided to start my NaCreSoMo late, and with painting. I'm not really a painter, at least not a good one, and was trying to paint how I draw. It didn't work out so well, and this is the result of having a bunch of paint left over and trying to get rid of it. I'm way more happy with the results of this quick dry-brushed sketch than the actual painting.

  1. Funny how things work like that—this "quick dry-brushed sketch" is a lot of fun and a solid piece on its own. Welcome to NaCreSoMo!

  2. I'm in lectures about the history of picture book illustrating right now (as in this semester, not at this exact moment), and one thing the lecturer was talking about was that for one of our illustrators, the quick sketches he did had a lot more life/energy than the finished paintings and final illustrations. I think that in many ways, letting loose and doing sketches with no holds barred is a great and legitimate way to make art. :)

  3. I think a lot of it has to do with quick sketches being more gestural and emotional, with less of the crap in your head telling you what is right or wrong about them. I've done things quickly that I've liked a lot, and when I try to replicate them or flesh them out I epically fail.

  4. I'm in love with this, sketch or "finished product."
